The Big Bang - goes up in smoke!

THERE ARE TWO REASONS WHY THE "BIG BANG" THEORY OF THE ORIGIN OF THE UNIVERSE CANNOT BE BELIEVED

1. It is not good science and scientists are beginning to speak up about this.

2. It is not good theology and Christians need to think very hard about this.

In the May 22, 2004 issue of New Scientist, an open letter to the scientific community is written - mainly by SECULAR scientists (i.e. they do not believe in the Bible's account of creation). In this letter they challenge the theory of the origin of the uiverse by a Big Bang - the explosion of energy and the beginning of an ever expanding universe. These scientists state clearly that the vast number of arbitrary assumptions and the lack of successful big bang predictions challenge the the theory of the big bang as one that can be taken seriously.

Here is a quote from what they wrote...

The big bang today relies on a growing number of hypothetical entities, things that we have never observed—inflation, dark matter and dark energy are the most prominent examples. Without them, there would be a fatal contradiction between the observations made by astronomers and the predictions of the big bang theory. In no other field of physics would this continual recourse to new hypothetical objects be accepted as a way of bridging the gap between theory and observation. It would, at the least, raise serious questions about the validity of the underlying theory.

This statement has SINCE been signed by hundreds of other professors and scientists at various institutions. The Big Bang theory is an unscientific and unsuccessful attempt to replace the biblical explanation of the creation of the universe by God.

A COMPARISON BETWEEN THE "BIG BANG" AND "CREATION"

When you take an honest look at the source information on Creation and the Big Bang, there is no way you can make the Big Bang theory fit with the way the Bible says God created the world.

For example:

The Big Bang theory says the universe was formed over billions of years.

The Bible says it was created in six days.

The Big Bang says that stars existed billions of years before the earth.

The Bible says the stars were created three days after the earth.

Have a look at the chart below and see how different these two beliefs are.

Note the different time in which the EARTH and the STARS arrived in these two explanations.

BIG BANG: Billions of years - STARS come before EARTH

BIG BANG STARS SUN MOLTEN EARTHFIRST OCEANS
15 Billion Years Ago10 Billion Years Ago 5 Billion Years Ago 4.5 Billion Years Ago 3.8 Billion Years Ago

CREATION: 6 days - EARTH created before STARS

WATER COVEREDEARTHDRY LAND & PLANTSSUN MOON &STARSSEA & FLYING CREATURESLAND ANIMALS & HUMANKIND
Days 1-2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6

The above illustration is only a small example of how different these two views on the origin of the universe are.

From this illustration it can be seen that it is not possible to believe the Bible account of the origin of the universe & the Big Bang theory at the same time. Not only do they simply not match, but a growing number of recognised scientists are also saying that the Big Bang cannot be presented as a valid scientific theory.

For the Christian however, what the scientists say here is not actually all that important. The fact is that if you believe the Bible to be the true inspired Word of God, then you can believe and trust what God says about how he created the universe.

i.e earth first, stars two days later.

But did the Bible mean a "literal" day or could DAY be equal to millions of years?

The Bible explains itself on this. In the Scriptures below, a "day" in the Genesis account of creation is a literal 24 hour period because after each creation period, the Bible says in very specific terms that there was evening and then morning and then the next day began (Genesis 1:13). In addition to this, in the second book of the Bible when God gives the ten commandments to his people we read in Exodus 20:11-12,

"But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."

In the passage quoted above, GOD is speaking to his people. Therefore, to say that the Bible doesn't teach that God made the world in six literal days is to call God a liar! It was God who told his people to rest on the seventh day from their labours as he rested on the seventh dayfrom creating the world. The same word for "day" is used in these two verses as it is in Genesis chapters one and two.

Creation - 6 Days not millions of years

Genesis 1:1-31

[DAY 1]

1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

[DAY 2]

Then God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” 7 God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so. 8 God called the expanse heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.

[DAY 3]

Then God said, “Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good. 11 Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so. 12 The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good. 13 There was evening and there was morning, a third day.

[DAY 4]

Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. 17 God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. 19 There was evening and there was morning, afourth day.

[DAY 5]

Then God said, “Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens.” 21 God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”23 There was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.

[DAY 6]

Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind”; and it was so. 25 God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; 30 and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food”; and it was so. 31 God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Genesis 2:1-3

[DAY 7]

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on theseventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Compare with Exodus 20:11-12

"But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed thesabbath day, and hallowed it."

6 DAYS, NOT BILLIONS OF YEARS
